3 days for Kings
« on: June 28, 2025, 11:50:19 AM »
Looks like a 3-day season again in MA 9&10, going to be a zoo.  I'm planning on sitting this one out, just not worth the hassle anymore.

Who all will be braving the crowds?

I will fish the opener Thurs/Fri at Mid Channel but that's it. I expect area 10 will get days added as it usually does but 9 will stay closed. Rough go but I guess orcas gotta eat too!...Wish they would eat seals!

3 days is like a bad joke. When I read the regs I said that can’t be right. I don’t know how they justify raising license prices but keep cutting opportunities. I’ll pay it cuz I hunt and fish.

I'll be out there on the Saturday with the crowds.  At least Everett has a great boat launch.

I'll do at least one day, but can't wait for coho where you can spread out a bit.

I think it's going to be a great season, wouldn't be surprised an emergency close.  The shorter the season the more people are likely to go out it seems, kind of shooting ourselves in the foot.

It’s gonna be fine. Take a deep breath. 10 will get at least another weekend, maybe two.

10 won’t be a zoo when 9 is open. Gets more crowded when 9 is closed.

There are kings in 10 beyond the south side of Jeff Head. Bigger issue is that there are few mature kings in 10 that early. Really hits its stride 2-3 weeks later.  It can be absolutely amazing the second week of August. The catch rate will be super low that first weekend, we’ll have plenty of quota to get more days.  Unfortunately probably not enough to last until it’s really good.

Afternoon tide change may be an option depending on the wind.

There are 2 people you can thank for that.  One of them owns a 34' duckworth atlas and has a radio show,  the other owns a tackle shop in everett.  Both of them have absolutely obliterated our puget sound fisheries and if you see there boats in an area you can rest assured that that will be the next area with more limitations and shorter seasons.  Both of them are wealthy and could care less if you get to fish as they have not only unlimited funds but full access to fisheries that are unaffected by there overpromoting.  It's a shame that in 10 years we went from full summer openers to table scraps.  Neither of these 2 used their platforms to raise money to pay lobbyists on our behalf and only took away the resource.  Neither will be happy until the last fish is caught.  The tackleshop owner in everett has passed the torch to his relative to continue decimating the fisheries and the first fishery to be affected was last year in 8.2 when the coho limit was reduced.  This year he destroyed the bubble.  I wish these people would think about the consequences prior to screwing it up for the rest of us.

You know what destroyed the bubble?  Chinook and lots of them, it's incredible fishing and people will go.

Same is true at B10, tons of fish draw tons of fishermen.

Same is true at Brewster.

Same is true at Drano.

Same is true everywhere else.

We've had some killer seasons last several years and people are going more because they are catching fish, having fun and enjoying the outdoors.

To blame Tom Joey and John for reductions in opportunity is not valid. They provide an informational resource just as this forum does. Accusing them of neglecting some unseen duty to use their platform to fight for our rights is shameful. If someone wants to toss money at lobbyist hoping for real help, have at and be that person. The info I get from their in regards to outdoor politics is more helpful to me than the typical complaint filled chat. I'm thankful for the free intel. Wicked envious of that Duckworth but I'm knockin the S out of the kings elsewhere and figr I'll get by
